Traditional Dental  vs.  Discount Dental

Traditional Dental plans: 

These dental plans are PPO plans designed to cover preventative, minor & major dental services. 

A typical PPO dental plan has:

• 100/80/50 coverage*
• $1,000 carrier max
• $50 deductible for Minor/Major services.
• PPO means: plan has both In and Out of network benefits
• Waiting periods: 6 month Minor/12 month Major  -(waived w/ prior dental)
• Premium range from :   $34 to $63+ per month

*100/80/50 means:

• 100% preventative coverage, cleaning exams, 2x a year
• 80% coverage for minor services...filings
• 50% coverage for major services…crowns, bridges, implants, perio, endodontics…

Discount Dental: 

100% preventive coverage and then discounts for minor and major dental services.
Discounts can start at 10% and go up to 50% depending on the service. 

Typical discount dental plans has:

• 100% / discount / discount coverage
• No waiting periods.
• Small networks of dentists
• No out of network benefits
• Premiums range:   $5 to $15 a month

Good option if your dentist accepts this insurance and you need it for preventative check-ups 2 times a year……or if you exhausted your traditional dental insurance benefits you can enroll in a discount dental plan for additional coverage.
